The Great Salt Lake

Unusual rock formations on Antelope Island The Great Salt Lake, seen here from the shore of Antelope Island, is worthless as a scuba site, because:

(1) the water's too salty to sink
(2) there's nothing in the lake except a few fly larvae and tiny brine shrimp

We list it here because out-of-state scuba fans may wonder why the biggest blue spot on the map isn't listed on our web site.

Farmington Bay, on the northern tip of the lake, has fresh water, but the visibility is too low for scuba. You can catch catfish and bass there.

Remote and rough trail near Bonneville Seabase. For a Utah salt-water dive, try Bonneville Seabase. Located 30 minutes west of Salt Lake on the road to Grantsville, this commercial dive site has ocean fish in salt-water ponds.
